Kirkby Lonsdale

Last Sunday the club visited Kirkby Lonsdale and they enjoyed superb weather conditions.

Barbara Mc led the ‘B’ party.9 miles with 900ft of ascent.

We follow paths and lanes to High Biggins and then go over fields to Hutton Roof. From here we take a steep but short path between houses which continues to contour the slopes of Hutton Roof crags. There are good views from this section when you can stop looking at your feet.

The return route takes a mixture of paths and quiet lanes back to Biggins from where we can go into the town to enjoy the cafes and pubs.

Ray Mcnamara led the ‘C’ party.

We climb up through fields and take an old track to the small hamlet of High Casterton. Crossing the Roman road we join a track passing Bindloss Farm, then join an ancient track which gives good views down to the Lune Valley. After about one and a half miles we take a footpath down through Langthwaite and into the scenic village of Casterton. We leave the village through the grounds of Casterton School which has associations with the Bonte sisters. The path leads past Casterton Hall and we follow an ancient path past the golf course. We then rejoin our outgoing path back to the coach.
