Kettlewell

I’m back from my travels and can now concentrate on catching up on my blog.

I missed the Kettlewell walk on Sunday 22nd July but here are the walk descriptions of the B and C walks.

Alan

The B walk was led by Barbara McMorran

The walk starts by climbing, via Top Mere Road, (a track) to Cam Head. There should be good views of Kettlewell, Kilnsey Crag and Great Whernside to pause and look at on the steep ascent.

After a short descent we have a moorland section, complete with bog, over Starbotton Out Moor to Walden road, also not a road. We then descend gently except for the last bit with great views into Starbotton. From here we cross the river Wharfe to ascend through trees to the shoulder of Moor End Fell.

The return path gives the best view of the glaciated U-shaped valley of Wharfedale.

I had a lovely day on the recce and we are promised summer for this weekend so hopefully the boggy bits won’t be too bad.

The C party was led by Betty Jones.

This walk leaves Kettlewell car park and climbs steeply at first and then steadily over rough and stony ground until we reach Moor End. We will take the climb slowly and stop frequently to admire the lovely views. The path improves until the start of the rocky descent down to the attractive village of Starbotton

The return journey is across fields and good tracks with plenty of good views back to Kettlewell where there will be plenty of time for afternoon tea.
