12. Crimpiau panorama

Today the club visited Trefriw in North Wales.

As usual there were three walks.

Margaret Bevan led the A party on a linear walk from Capel Curig to Trefriw. Conditions were perfect as we set off on this 10 mile walk.

Here is Margaret’s walk description :-

This is a linear walk from Capel Curig to Trefriw. We cross moorland going East then North to climb CRIMPIAU (1560 ft) where we should get wonderful views down the lake. We descend to Llyn Grafnant Reservoir and continue along to the end of the lake. We cross by path to Llyn Geirionydd and then walk South along the edge of the lake. We continue and make our way through a small wood and old mine working before passing through a farm and onto a forest where we pass old mines. we make our way to LLANRHYCHWYN CHURCH founded in the 6th century. We Continue to Trefriw by lane.

Alan writes :- I did the walk with Margaret. My impression and images from the walk can be found in www.crosbyman66.wordpress.com

Graham Bevan led the C party ramble.

Length  7.0 miles, Ascent 700 ft

We start our walk on top of the flood defence dykes along the River Conwy until we reach Llanrwst via the suspension bridge. We walk through some of the town before dropping down to the river and over the ancient road bridge (1636) once again crossing the River Conwy. we now start our climb to visit the Grey Mare’s Tail waterfall. We carry on uphill to view the ancient church at Llanrhychwyn. After leaving the church we make our way back to Trefriw mainly going down the hill.
