Loggerheads

Sunday 28th November 2010.

CHA “B” walk. 9 miles. 1200 ft of ascent.

Leader : Barbara McMorran.

Today’s walk starts by following and tracks to Llanferres. We cross the main road to take a lane past the Druids Hotel then across fields and wood to join the Offa’s Dyke Path which climbs steadily up Bwlch Crug-glas for views over the Vale of Clwyd. There is now a short steep climb to the top of Foel Fenlli with good views all around. The descent to Bwlch Penbarra is on a good path and stepped part of the way. We then take a good track, a short stretch of tarmac, paths through the woods, a bit up again here, then follow a stream and the road back to Loggerheads.

Alan writes: I did the “B” party walk with Barbara. There were 17 of us on the walk and it was done at a leisurely pace with plenty of stops to admire the views and take photographs. Conditions were perfect, clear blue skies and a couple of inches of powdery snow. It was very pleasant in the sunshine but the temperature dipped well below zero when we were in the shade. Care was needed on the steep sections and I think all of us inadvertently “sat down” on the descent from Foel Fenlli. There were lots of people out enjoying the winter conditions. Back at Loggerheads most of the B party headed for the cafe but by the time I arrived it was full. I was forced to cross the road to the pub for a pint of real ale.

A super day.

If anyone from the A or C party have any images or a report of the day that they would like to go on the website can they please send them to me.
