Loughrigg

Tuesday 19th January 2009.

Recee for "A Party" walk.

As a result of the recent heavy snowfalls the club decided to change the destination of the next Sunday ramble from Troutbeck to Ambleside.

Unsure of what to expect ,Les and I set out to do the recee for the A walk.

We walked through Ambleside and then took the path through Rydal Park leading to Rydal Mount. Descending to the A591 we crossed the road and followed the footpath round Rydal Water onto Loughrigg terrace. A short but steep climb took us to the summit of Loughrigg ( 1101 ft )

There are many tracks on Loughrigg Fell but we followed a permissive path before dropping down past Brow head farm to reach the road close to Ambleside.

There was not as much snow as we had expected although small patches of ice meant that you had to watch your step.

At 8 miles it was a relatively short A walk.

Images from the walk can be seen in photo album > loughrigg.
