GRASMERE

Sunday October 4th 2009.

Notes from Alan.

The club visited Grasmere where I did the B party walk led by Graham Bevan.
We started the walk in Grasmere and climbed up past Allan Bank towards Silver How.
There had been a light shower and looking to our right we saw a beautiful rainbow over Helm Crag.
Conditions were perfect as we reached the summit of Silver How and we could admire the panoramic view taking in many of the major fells.
To the south there was the Wetherlam and Conniston range and to the west we had Bowfell and the Langdales. To the north there was Helm Crag with Blencathra on the horizon and to the west, Helvellyn and the Fairfield range. The lighting conditions were changing by the minute, a photographers dream.
After lunch we made our way to Loughrigg and followed the terrace before dropping down to the lake.
We followed the path along the shore back into Grasmere with plenty of time left for refreshments.

A wonderful day on the fells.
